Radio Hour ends season on a high note

The Friday, June 17 Radio Hour will present a trio of singers for its 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. shows at 329 W. Main St. in Downtown Waynesboro. Duffy, Llyn Walker, and Gwynne Wood will join with the Boogie Kings to provide a musical finale to the Radio Hour’s fourth season.

Gwynne Wood is a young talent who is blessed with a pure vocal tone and a grasp of musical styles well beyond her years. Her last local appearance was in the Waynesboro Players’ production of A Little Night Music.

Llyn Walker, a favorite Radio Hour performer, can effortlessly slip from jazz to pop to blues.. Llyn is also an actor in many of the Radio Hour serials. Completing the trio is folksinger and songwriter, Duffy. A frequent performer on the Radio Hour, Duffy’s unique perspective on the world gives his songs a special insight.

New Art Center exhibit

The Staunton Augusta Art Center galleries will feature the 360-degree panoramic photography of Lexington resident James O. Phelps June 10-July 31 with the opening reception on Friday, June 10, 5-7pm.

Regular gallery hours are 10am-5pm Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm Saturday, and 1pm-4pm Sunday. Located in the R.R. Smith Center for History and Art at 20 S. New Street across from the Visitor Center and parking garage in historic downtown Staunton.

Spend the weekend with the Madisons

Beginning this weekend, visitors to James Madison’s Montpelier will see a couple of familiar faces when they visit the home of the Father of the Constitution.

During the hot summer months, James and Dolley Madison always left the muggy Washington weather to relax at Montpelier, their beloved Virginia estate. “James” and “Dolley Madison” will once again greet visitors at their storied home June 11 through September 25. Guests may call on Mr. or Mrs. Madison in the mansion’s south wing.

They will receive visitors from 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., most Saturdays, and Noon–5:00 p.m., most Sundays.

Miata Cruise: Can’t wait to accelerate

For those who may be wondering, yes, there will be a spring – actually, this time more like early summer – cruise for area Mazda Miata enthusiasts.

The date: Sunday afternoon, June 26. As with previous outings, participants are invited to congregate in the nearly-vacant Waterman Square Shopping Center parking lot at the corner of Waterman Drive and W. Market St. (Rt. 33) with a departure time promptly at 1 p.m. Persons are asked to arrive no later than 12:45 p.m. for introductions and a few rules for the road.

Wilson Library celebrates Flag Day with free flags for guests

In recognition of President Woodrow Wilson’s establishment of Flag Day in 1916, the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum will hand out flags to guests on Flag Day, Tuesday, June 14.

President Woodrow Wilson established Flag Day with a Proclamation in 1916. Communities across the nation began celebrating Flag Day that year.
